DAY 1  Oct 21, 2018   DEPART from various points in the USA with for overnight flight to Tel Aviv. Contact Laura Green for flight assistance and coordination

 

DAY 2  Oct 22, 2018   ARRIVE at Ben Gurion International Airport. (If you do your own flights, plan your arrival by 4 PM). You’ll be met by our Tour representative and guide. Receive assistance through baggage claim and customs. Board our bus.  Enjoy the ride to Tel Aviv and check-in to our hotel. There is some time at leisure. A stroll is suggested along the beautiful beachfront promenade to enjoy the refreshing air and surf. Return to the hotel for dinner together in our own section of the main dining room.

Spice and grainDAY 3  Oct 23, 2018  After breakfast we will visit Independence Hall. We’ll watch a fascinating movie with actual pictures of the origins of Tel Aviv over 100 years ago and we’ll listen to an audio presentation including David Ben Gurion reading the Declaration of Independence establishing the State of Israel.   Continue to the Old Port City of Jaffa (Joppa), one of the oldest biblical cities in the world and an important seaport since antiquity.  It was from here that Jonah embarked for Tarshish and was swallowed by a great whale. We might try a wonderful local “hummus” restaurant for lunch (optional cost).  We have some time to wander thru the spice market at Shuk Carmel and then proceed to Yad Lashiryon and the Latrun Armored Museum, a great picture opportunity with the tanks of the IDF from prior to 1948 to the present. Learn about the 1948 road to Jerusalem and the battles relating to this road.  Overnight  in the Dan Panorama Tel Aviv Hotel      (B)

 

DAY 4  Oct 24, 2018  Following breakfast we will visit IWI, (Israel Weapons Industry) subject to confirmation. We’ll have a full tour of the facility to learn about the hand weapons they have developed and built over the decades. Experience some hand’s on opportunity!  (Time permitting; we might have access to the firing range)  In the afternoon we will visit the ‘underground’ Ayalon Institute. Here, a once-secret Hagannah (pre-State defense force) munitions factory existed during the Mandate Period under Britain.  The factory and its products played an important role for the prewar defenses and later, during the War of Independence for the newly born Israel Defense Forces.  Overnight in the Dan Panorama Tel Aviv Hotel                       (B)

 

CaesareaDAY 5  Oct 25, 2018   Check out after breakfast and proceed north from Tel Aviv along the coast. We’ll make a stop at Caesarea, the ancient port built 2000 years ago by King Herod. As we explore, be sure to listen to the acoustics of the great theater. It is still in use presently during the summer evenings for excellent seaside concerts. Further north we enter the Golan mountain range and stop for a wonderful wine tasting at one of the many outstanding boutique wineries that has received worldwide gold star recognition.  We will have an opportunity to view the northern border of Israel, Lebanon and Syria from Har Bental before checking into our Kibbutz accommodations for overnight.  Dinner is in the main dining room. Chat with the Kibbutz members and participate in a walking tour following dinner.        (B, D)

 

 

DAY 6  Oct 26, 2018  Enjoy a delicious Kibbutz breakfast.  Visit the “Ancient Boat” Museum and see first-hand, a boat dating back 1800+ years that might be similar to the boat that Jesus sailed upon. We board our own boat and cross the waters of the Sea of Galilee.  We’ll continue to Yardenit, a traditional site for a Jordan River Baptism.  Travel southwest to Megiddo, site of King Solomon’s fortress and explore the secrets of this ancient area. Relax as we head south to the Holy City of Jerusalem.  Check into the Dan Hotel; prepare for a beautiful Shabbat dinner at the hotel.  Overnight Dan Jerusalem Hotel       (B, D)

 

Golden Gate

DAY 7  Oct 27, 2018  After breakfast we begin a full day tour of Jerusalem at the Mount of Olives to enjoy a remarkable view of the "Golden City" of Jerusalem.  Visit the Garden of Gethsemane and the Garden Tomb.  Continue to Mount Zion. Stand in the Upper Room, revered as the place of the Last Supper.  From here we enter the Old City and walk along the Stations of the Cross on the Via Dolorosa to visit the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Our walking tour will end at the Western Wall. This wall, adjacent to the Temple Mount is one of the holiest sites of Judaism dating back to the construction of the First Temple by King Solomon. The evening is at leisure.  Be sure to head to Ben Yehuda Street and the pedestrian mall as the shops and restaurants re-open after Shabbat.                           Overnight Dan Jerusalem Hotel                                                                                                               (B)

 

 

DAY 8  Oct 28, 2018   After breakfast, we’ll travel to Yad Vashem, considered the primary memorial and museum of the Holocaust. Walk through the new Holocaust History Museum, which occupies over 4,200 square meters, mainly underground. We will visit the very moving exhibit at the Children’s Pavilion, commemorating the death of over 1.5 million Jewish children in the Holocaust. We will stop at Hadassah Hospital to visit the synagogue and the beautiful Chagall Windows. At Hadassah we will enjoy a special tour of the Mother and Child Pavilion; PLEASE BRING a small stuffed animal and we’ll present them to the children. We continue to the JNF Forest at the edge of Jerusalem to pay respects to the victims of September 11th at the 9/11 Memorial. This is the only place outside of the United States that recognizes the names of the people who were killed as well as their countries of origin. As we drive around the city, we see the Knesset. We continue to the City of David and see the newest and exciting excavations of Jerusalem dating to the time of the first Temple period. Return to our hotel or choose a drop off in the new City to have dinner and shop on your own. Return to the hotel on your own. Overnight Dan Jerusalem  Hotel  (B)

 

DAY 9  Oct  29, 2018  Following breakfast we travel south to the outskirts of Jerusalem to visit the Caliber 3 Range at the Gush Etzion Bloc. This is a world renowned center for IDF Infantry Field and Urban Combat and Counter-Terrorism Training. It is a promised highlight of our tour with hands on participation.  Continue to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem which is one of the oldest continuously operating churches in the world. The structure is built over the cave that tradition marks as the birthplace of Jesus.  Afterwards there is shopping time for gifts for loved ones.               Overnight Dan Hotel Jerusalem                (B)

Continue south and east past the marker of Sea Level and travel down to Masada. Here we’ll take the cable car to the top, explore the ruins of King Herod’s Palace, Mikvah and Synagogue which ultimately became the fortress the Jews used almost 2000 years ago to defend themselves against the Romans. The story is emotional and gives you great understanding why young Jewish adults being sworn into the army come here and say “Masada will never fall again”.   We’ll continue along the shore of the Dead Sea stop for a float/swim.  Enjoy a relaxing ride south, marvel at the beautiful desert scenery and in Eilat. We check into the Rimonim Hotel for dinner and the next 2 nights. Overnight Eilat Rimonim Hotel        (B, D)

 

 

Desert CamelsDAY 11, Oct 31, 2018   We’ll have an early breakfast and depart on a short ride to the Jordanian border at the

Arava crossing.  Our Jordanian guide will join us for the full day tour to Petra. After a cart ride thru the Siq we arrive into the famed Nabatean City carved from the red rock many centuries ago. Learn the history of this once famous and heavily inhabited city along the desert route from Arabia to Egypt.  We’ll enjoy lunch, have some shopping time and then return to Eilat.  Following dinner the evening is free to stroll along the

DAY 12 Nov 1, 2018

Our final breakfast, and then we travel north to Tel Aviv.  We’ll drive thru the very beautiful Mitzpe Ramon Crater. There are stops scheduled at Ben Gurion U (solar power tour, subject to availability), a Beer Sheba Bedouin experience, on to S’derot for a  brief tour and visit to the indoor children’s playground as well as a chance to view an Iron Dome battery.  We’ll continue towards the airport for a special “good-bye” dinner. Transfer to the airport for departure flight, not before 11 PM. (Actual arrival in the USA  Nov 2)            (B, D)
